Treatment co-ordinator Lynden Finlay speaks at a conference in Chester

In 2011 Dr Wendy Dossett and her husband Professor John Stoner, who had worked as part of our clinical team giving lectures and running workshops at weekends, left the field of residential treatment to return to their careers in academia.

Wendy is now the Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at the University of Chester where she is currently the principal investigator on the Higher Power Project. On 14 March 2012 Wendy hosted a one-day conference entitled Addiction – a spiritual illness with a spiritual solution? Her aim was to bring together a collection of ‘experts’ (including academics, professionals and practitioners in the field of addiction, and people recovering from addiction) to share their ideas about spirituality and its place in recovery from addiction.

One of the speakers was Lynden Finlay, Treatment Co-ordinator of Rhoserchan, who presented her work on developing a 12-Step treatment programme suitable for use by anyone seeking recovery from addiction, including those who have no religious faith and may therefore fail to engage with the 12-Step programme as originally written.

The event was a huge success and sparked much debate. Wendy’s research on the Higher Power project goes from strength to strength, and Lynden has been able to present to a much wider audience her groundbreaking work on a spiritual, but not necessarily religious, 12-Step based treatment programme.

Drug detox

Following the success of our assisted alcohol detoxes, we are now applying to CSSIW for a variation which will allow us to provide detox from drugs including methadone. Rhoserchan Reunion 2011

It’s reunion time again. As usual it will be held in the afternoon on the first saturday in August. This year that will be saturday the 6th. We welcome all ex residents in recovery and their close friends and family to come and catch up with fellow ex residents and staff. Fingers crossed for sunshine!

Summer

Summer is here! We are having our usual mix of gorgeous days followed by days with nothing but rain. The trees are all green and leafy and our polytunnels are full of vegetables almost ready to eat.

Detox

We have now had our first few detoxes at Rhoserchan. They have been a huge success and we are delighted to be offering this service.

Spring has arrived!

Yes, spring has finally arrived at Rhoserchan after a very long hard winter. We can now feel confident that we will not have to wade through several feet of snow to get about. This is a relief!

Spring at Rhoserchan is beautiful. Our residents have been working hard with the grounds team, planting and nurturing vegetables both in our polytunnels and in vegetable patches outside. The mowers and strimmers have been out and the gardens are looking fresh and revived.
